Once home to First Nations peoples, then a productive source for furs and lumber to supply the increasing demand of European and North American markets, Mont Tremblant's rise to a premier ski destination began with the opening of the Petit Train du Nord.

This lifeline from Montreal, dubbed the "ski train", brought hardy souls to the mountain beginning in the 1920's, long before a lift system was even thought of. Skiers would climb the mountain on skis, and then zoom back down through the forest.
The first chairlift wasn't installed at Mont Tremblant until 1939, the same year that Mont-Tremblant Lodge opened. This was the true beginning of the resort's rise to the award winning ski and outdoor lover's paradise it is today. Today Mont Tremblant offers a variety of accommodations. Quaint B&B's dot the landscape. Chalets, some waterfront, some surrounded by acreage that ensures the highest degree of privacy possible are available in all sizes. Condo offerings range from cozy studios up to luxury four bedroom units, many with private hot tubs.
Winter in Mont Tremblant is all about the snow. The resort's name sake, Mont Tremblant has an impressive 2,131 foot vertical drop and offers 94 downhill trails, 13 lifts and 110 km (68 miles) of cross country ski trails. The Duncan Express is a fast quadruple chairlift and there is also a heated high speed gondola to take you to the top of the mountain. The area on the other side of the mountain is known at Verdant Soleil. It has a vertical drop of 2,132 feet and offers 15 trails including one for glade skiing. Sixty percent of these trails are suitable for advanced or expert skiers, the rest for intermediate. Access to the top is by a high speed quad chair.

The south side Adrenaline Snow Park offers acres of ramps, rails and jumps to test your snowboarding skills on. There is also an Olympic calibre six metre high half pipe to further challenge your ability.
Offering eight trails, two rope tows, cafeteria and picnic area, the Tubing Park at Mont Tremblant is the perfect place for fun and plenty of exercise. Bounce down the hill in a colourful inner tube and then ride the mechanical lift back up to the top.
Snowmobiling Adventures, which offers private and group excursions for adults, has a mini one and a half hour activity that is perfect for families with four to twelve year olds. It features a mini snowmobile ride through an "enchanted forest", tubing and mini snowmobiling on a closed circuit trail for kids.
Summer visitors will find this outdoor paradise full of exciting activities. Golfing at Mont Tremblant combines the challenge of working your way around a well laid out course with stunning views of what Mother Nature has to offer. The Tremblant courses, such as Golf Le Maitre De Mont Tremblant are known for their magnificent fairways and challenging greens. It is possible that one may encounter not only the typical water hazards and sand traps, but the occasional wandering deer or other wild creature reminding you that you are in their backyard.
The Centre Nautique Pierre Plouffe is located at the Beach and Tennis Club on the shores of Lake Tremblant. The twelve kilometre (7.5 mile) long lake has plenty of room to try out your favourite water sports. The Centre offers waterskiing, wakeboarding and sailing, as well as pleasure boat rentals. Certified instructors are available for those wishing to try something new or improve existing skills. For those looking for something a bit more low key, paddle boats are available.
The summer version of the fast paced sport of luge is just as thrilling as its winter counterpart. This gravity ride uses three wheeled carts with a unique braking and steering system that gives the rider complete control. Age and weight restrictions are in effect, but children can ride tandem with an adult.
Golfers of the future, or those who just enjoy the colour and variation of mini golf courses will find an amusing challenge at this venue in the centre of Tremblant. Located beside La Source Aqua Club, families will find this a reasonably priced and fun outing.
Kids and adults are invited to scale a man made giant iceberg anchored in the middle of Lake Tremblant and dive off the top. Located near the Beach and Tennis Club, this is the only water toy of its kind in Canada.
At the base of Mont Tremblant kids can work off plenty of that ever present energy of youth at the new Spider Web attraction. The structure is made in such a way that kids can enjoy their favourite past times of climbing, crawling, dangling and bouncing.
In the heart of the pedestrian village La Source Aqua Club offers a year round, full service fitness club for adults and a water wonderland for families. Toddlers and very young children can play in a shallow kiddie pool with an easy climb slide and a submerged cushioned mat to land on.
Older children get a kick out of the Tarzan rope swing that drops them into the pool in a special roped off area and the Rock Jump, a man made ledge that offers a jumping off platform into another section of the pool. Bridges, slides and waterfalls invite exploration.
Paintballs is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and Mont Tremblant offers the chance to experience it year round. Special non-freezing balls are used so games may be played even on very cold days. Ten different playgrounds are in use, with such names as The Bus, The Sniper and The Fort.
One must not forget the Parc National du Mont Tremblant. This wildlife sanctuary is home to nearly 200 species of birds, fish and mammals. Created in 1894, it encompasses more than 400 lakes and rivers and is a popular summer draw for canoes and camping. In winter the many trails are used by snowboarders, cross country skiers and snowmobilers
