Banff Information

Established in the early 1880's after completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway this one time station stop has developed into the largest town in Banff National Park. Shortly after its founding, a series of natural hot springs on the side of Sulphur Mountain was discovered. Canada established a federal reserve around the springs and began promoting the area as an international resort and spa; a playland for the rich and famous and the not so rich and merely wildlife conscious, was born.

In 1985 the United Nations declared Banff National Park a World Heritage site and it remains one of the most visited areas in all of Canada. Skiers will delight in the challenging slopes of Mt. Norquay and hikers will enjoy the scenic boardwalk trail at the end of the gondola lift atop Sulphur Mountain (home of the upper hot springs).

Culture also exists in this popular resort town. It is home to the Banff World Television Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival and the Rocky Mountain Music Festival.
